Remembering JR

This weekend we had a funeral to attend. One that we knew was coming, but still hard to attend.  This was the first funeral that i took a child to and it scared me how it would affect her.

My grandmother's cousin, JR Thames. died from complication of pneumonia and just plain ole getting old. There are lots of ways to remember JR, but what I am choosing to record is the impact he had on my kids.

JR loved to visit, tell stories, laugh, and fishing. He had no problem telling a story that just might embarrass us all. He spoke of his troubled past and laughed at his own shenanigans. He always reminded us to go to church.

Please know my sweet kids, that there is not a past that you cannot get around. JR knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized at an old age and knew that he would spend eternity with Jesus. No matter what you may do, please never hesitate to come back to Jesus.

My favorite thing that I remember about JR was that he is deep rooted in his family ties. Although, he may have gotten aggravated with his family and they with him. They loved each other.  That was completely evident in the line of cars that left the funeral home and drove to the graveside with us.  Your family will always love you and will always stand up for you.

We will miss you JR. Visiting Florida will not be the same without you there. We will see you again one day.
